The Joyce Family

The Joyce Family

The Joyce story goes back a century when William Joyce Senior began clearing and establishing 34 acres of orchard at Lenswood in the Adelaide Hills. The crops were transported by horse and cart weekly to the East End markets in Adelaide. The round trip taking two days. Four generations on, Mark and Brett Joyce, now continue the family tradition. As the fruit trees grew they became the predominant crop and as history shows Lenswood has become renowned for its ability to produce top quality apples.

Today the family orchard planting’s are in four main regions with about 1500 acres under orchard. Lenswood in the Adelaide Hills, Murbko in the Riverland, Kalangadoo in the South East of South Australia and Coomboona in the Goulburn Valley of Victoria.

Apples are harvested for six months of the year starting with Gala apples from the Riverland in January and finishing with Lady William in June.

Joyson have approximately 300 acres of orchard within the Lenswood region.  Lenswood is a traditional apple growing area, and the location where Joyson Orchards began.  Joyson have large plantings of Golden Delicious, Granny Smith, Red Delicious and Jonathan apples in this area.  In recent years Pink Lady, Royal Gala and Red Jonogold Fuji and Sundowners have been planted as older orchards are replaced.

The main packing shed and coolstore facilities are located at the Cold Store Road headquarters near Lenswood.  The packing facilities include the latest Colour Vision grader and associated equipment.
