The Wine Front - Campbell Mattinson

Reviews

Vue du Nord Pinot Noir

It's fairly light in weight but it's a complex offering and an appealing one.  Cranberry and redcurrant flavours mix with musk and sweet spices.  It draws you in and keeps you happy throughout.  Entirely varietal from start to finish and not a kink in sight; it feels supple and fluid at all times.

Pike & Joyce Sirocco Chardonnay 2016

Rich and heady with meringue, nougat and honey aromas. The palate has great harmony and balance with the perfect amount of fruit intensity. Powerful flavours inside an elegant frame. Lovely now, though will benefit from a little time in bottle. An exceptional chardonnay, especially considering the price.

2015 'VUE DU NORD PINOT NOIR

While a lot of trade will be done in the P&J bargin 'Rapide" pinot at $20, a smart, fresh and youthful style, step on up to this all-lenswood marque which has plenty of the variety's distinctive bush and forest herbal notes - thyme, rosemary, eucalypt - and a blacker fruit profile with more solid weight and structure, more intensity and greater palate drive. Lots going for it and worth a drive to the spectacular cellar door location.

2015 ''BEURRE BOSC' PINOT GRIS

Classy luscious fruit, the creaminess and light tangyness of the meld of pears, orange blossom, spicy apple, musk and lychee works a cracker. Great aromatics, good structure to boot, together it works a treat on the aromas front and in the palate delivery of a lingering long delicious moreish set of classic varietal flavours.

2015 The Kay Reserve Chardonnay

The aromas are slightly funky and nutty, supporting varietal white peach. The impressive palate is long and creamy. ($318.00 for 6 bottles) ★★★★☆

2016 'Sirocco' Chardonnay

Adelaide Hills does what you might call 'silky Chardonnay' exceedingly well. White peach, green melon, lime, struck match, vanilla, cashew. Medium bodied, smooth and silky, with just the right amount of white peachy fruit, green olive savoury and spiced oak, fine acidity, light flinty texture and a cool lime-laced finish of super length - 94 points.
